Membership Memorandum of Understanding
Preamble
We, as members of the South Jersey Doula Alliance (SJDA), agree to unite under shared principles of compassion, advocacy, and professionalism. Recognizing that together we can offer better support to families during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, we commit to fostering a collaborative and supportive community for birth workers in South Jersey.
Member Agreement
As a member of the South Jersey Doula Alliance, I agree to the following responsibilities and commitments:
1. Mission Statement
I support the Alliance’s mission to elevate the role of doulas in South Jersey through collaboration, education, advocacy, and community engagement.
I commit to contributing to the growth of doulas as a recognized, respected, and secure profession with opportunities for professional development and stability.
2. Values and Principles
Respect: I will uphold dignity and respect for all members, regardless of race, gender, religion, or socioeconomic status.
Shared Success: I will embrace a spirit of abundance over competition, acknowledging that there is enough space and opportunity for everyone to succeed.
Inclusivity: I commit to promoting equity and ensuring access to doula services for marginalized communities.
Autonomy: I respect the right of families to make informed, personal decisions and will uphold the autonomy of my clients and fellow members.
Continuous Learning: I will strive for personal and professional growth through ongoing education and reflection.
3. Responsibilities
Professional Standards: I will perform my duties with integrity, professionalism, and respect.
Participation: I will actively attend meetings, contribute to Alliance activities, and engage in events and trainings.
Support Fellow Members: I will provide guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to fellow doulas within the Alliance.
Advocacy: I will prioritize the well-being and autonomy of clients and support policy initiatives that promote the recognition of doulas as essential members of the maternal healthcare team.
4. Code of Conduct
I will maintain professional integrity, conduct myself with honesty and accountability.
I will address conflicts within the Alliance with respect and mediation.
I will maintain the scope of practice appropriate for my profession.
5. Decision-Making and Membership
I will participate in Alliance decision-making processes, ensuring my voice is heard and contributing to consensus-building.
I understand that membership may be terminated either voluntarily or for cause, if I engage in conduct harmful to clients, members, or the Alliance.
Termination of Membership
Membership may be terminated by:
Voluntary Exit: A member may choose to leave the Alliance at any time by providing notice in writing.
For Cause: A member may be removed for violating the compact or engaging in conduct that is harmful to clients, other members, or the Alliance.
This memorandum ensures clear expectations for leadership, collaboration, and professional conduct, fostering a cohesive, supportive, and productive community within the Alliance. This memorandum of understanding is not intended to be a legally binding contract or agreement.
